The landfall of Cyclone Montha, which has grown into a severe cyclonic storm, began Tuesday evening between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam, close to Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. High tides around the shore have been warned of by the India Meteorological Department. During the landfall process, Andhra is experiencing heavy rains and wind. The tropical cyclone is also affecting neighbouring states including West Bengal, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, and Chhattisgarh. Up to 22 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel have been sent to coastal regions in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Puducherry.

According to him, “Indian Railways has so far cancelled 122 trains due to the cyclonic conditions that are prevalent along the coastal areas, while a few others have been regulated, rescheduled, or diverted.” Approximately 160 trains have been impacted overall. The majority of these trains go between the areas of Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada, which are probably going to be affected by the cyclone. As a result, those routes’ services have been discontinued.In particular, trains heading to Howrah and Assam from South Indian towns like Bengaluru and Chennai, as well as several trains headed for Secunderabad, have been cancelled or delayed. According to IMD’s most recent observation, the landfall process has begun on X. For the following three to four hours, the landfall process will proceed. It said: “The Severe Cyclonic Storm Montha over westcentral Bay of Bengal moved north-northwestwards with a speed of 15 kmph during the past six hours and lay centred at 1630 hrs IST of today, the 28th October 2025, over the same region, near latitude 15.8°N & longitude 82.4°E, about 50 km south-southeast of Machilipatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 130 km south of Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh), 230 km south-southwest of Visakhapatnam.”
Over the course of the following three to four hours, it will continue to travel north-northwest and pass over the Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam, near Kakinada, as a severe cyclonic storm with maximum sustained winds of 90 to 100 kmph with gusts up to 110 kmph.

As Cyclone Montha became stronger into a powerful cyclonic storm over the west-central Bay of Bengal on Monday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued red and orange advisories for a number of districts in southern Odisha.

According to Bhubaneswar IMD Director Dr. Manorama Mohanty, who briefed the media, the cyclone is currently located roughly 510 km southwest of Gopalpur. “During the evening or night of October 28, it is very likely to move north-northwestward and cross the Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam, around Kakinada,” she said.

She noted that the wind speed is predicted to be between 90 and 110 km/h at the time of landfall.

Due to severe cyclone Montha in the Bay of Bengal, officials announced that heavy vehicles would not be permitted to travel on national highways in the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh starting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
