CM Saini Meets Puran Kumar’s Wife Amid Allegations of Harassment After Haryana IPS Officer Suicide

Chandigarh: After ADGP and IPS officer Y Puran Kumar allegedly committed suicide, his wife accused high-ranking officials of harassment and demanded swift judicial action, causing tension in Haryana’s political and administrative circles. IAS officer Amneet P. Kumar, Puran Kumar’s wife, met with Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini in Chandigarh on Thursday. Nearly an hour passed during the meeting.

Amneet filed a formal complaint with the Chief Minister, demanding that everyone included in her husband’s suicide letter be suspended and taken into custody. She said that even after 48 hours, no formal complaint or detailed note had been filed.
Amneet said in her letter to the Chief Minister that the suicide note specifically names the perpetrators of mental torment, humiliation, and harassment and called for prompt judicial action. She accused senior Haryana Police officials, including DGP Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor and Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarnia, of influencing the inquiry to shield the accused and disparage her family, and she criticized the Chandigarh Police for their inaction.

Citing safety concerns, Amneet demanded that a formal complaint be filed immediately, that the accused be detained and suspended, and that she and her two daughters be given permanent security. She further claimed that the family was still being intimidated and demanded that their dignity be protected.
Chief Minister Saini met Haryana DGP Shatrughan Kapoor at Chandigarh Airport earlier in the day after returning from Japan and asked for a thorough report on the subject.
Puran Kumar’s family has requested that the postmortem of his body, which is being held in the Government Hospital mortuary in Sector 16, Chandigarh, be postponed till their older daughter arrives from the United States.

Amneet accused DGP Kapoor and SP Narendra Bijarnia of caste-based discrimination, harassment, and public humiliation in her separate complaint, which she filed at the Sector 11 police station. She said that her husband, a member of the Scheduled Caste, was driven to commit suicide by constant caste-related taunts.

When Puran Kumar was discovered dead in the basement of his Sector 11 home on October 7, the horror began. Police said he committed suicide with a military weapon. The weapon, suicide note, and will were found at the location. While at home, his younger daughter found the body and called the police.
