Fatehpur: On Friday, Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, visited with the relatives of Hariom Valmiki, who was lynched two weeks ago in Raebareli, the home seat of the Congress MP in Uttar Pradesh.
Gandhi arrived in Turab Ali Ka Purva, Hariom’s ancestral hamlet, at around ten in the morning. There, he greeted his parents, brother, and sister.
The family members were reassured of justice and comforted by the top leader. He told reporters that the family informed him that they were compelled to record a video and that the government, acting through the district administration, had threatened to prevent them from meeting him.
Gandhi claimed that throughout their conversation, the family courageously revealed these “troubling details” with him. He continued, “It doesn’t matter whether the family meets me or not; what matters is that strict action should be taken against those responsible for the crime.”
Gandhi claimed on X that the nation’s conscience has been rocked by the heinous murder of Hariom Valmiki. “His family’s eyes were filled with grief as they asked: Is it still a terrible crime to be Dalit in this country? The Uttar Pradesh government is occupied with intimidating the relatives of the victim. They even attempted to prevent me from meeting the family. This is the same systemic failure that consistently puts the victim in the dock and serves as a shield for the offenders,” he said.
He also promised that he would keep fighting for all voices that do not submit to injustice. It is impossible to maintain justice under house arrest. The victim’s family should no longer be under pressure, and the BJP administration should make sure that those found culpable receive the harshest punishment possible. I firmly support the family of Hariom Valmiki as well as all of the nation’s weak, oppressed, and exploited citizens. “This fight is for every voice that will not bow to injustice, not just for Hariom,” he continued.

Before Gandhi arrived, Hariom’s brother Shivam Valmiki made a video in which he said the family was happy with the way the government handled the matter and that Rahul Gandhi shouldn’t come for political reasons.
Hariom’s parents sobbed over the loss of their son while Rahul Gandhi sat with the family and comforted them. He promised them all the help they needed to pursue justice.
Posters criticizing the Congress MP were shown across the city the day before Gandhi’s travel to Fatehpur and his meeting with Hariom’s family, therefore a significant police presence was arranged to prevent any unfortunate events.
CM Yogi Offers the Victim’s Sister a Job
Kusum Devi, the sister of Hariom Valmiki, was hired by the district administration as a staff nurse under outsourcing at Amar Shaheed Jodha Singh Ataiya Thakur Dariyaw Singh Medical College on the directives of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
What Caused Hariom’s Death?
Hariom Valmiki was apprehended by locals on the evening of October 2 at Jamunapur hamlet in Raebareli after being mistaken for a thief. He was allegedly thrashed with clubs and rods until he passed away. Afterwards, a video of the incident went viral, showing Hariom stealing Rahul Gandhi’s name.
Hariom’s death was previously referred to as Dalit oppression in the state by the Uttar Pradesh branch of the Congress, which also blamed the BSP and former Chief Minister Mayawati for their disregard for the occurrence.
