Warangal: Man Sentenced to 19 Years in Prison for Attempting to Kill Son and Wife

WARANGAL: After being found guilty of attempting to kill his wife and son with an axe while intoxicated, a 42-year-old man was fined ₹5,000 and sentenced to 19 years of hard labor. Assistant Sessions Judge A. Nagaraju rendered the decision on Thursday in the Jayashankar Bhupalpally district. Martha Rajesh of Rajiv Nagar Colony, the accused, was known to have a drinking problem and to often mistreat his wife and kids. He returned home drunk on March 13, 2023, which is when the tragedy happened. Rajesh attempted to kill his wife, Martha Rama, 38, and his 15-year-old son by hitting them with an axe after she chastised him for his drinking.
Velpula Shravan, his brother-in-law, submitted a complaint that led to the case’s registration. The accused was taken into custody by B. Ramakrishna, the Bhupalpally sub-inspector at the time, and a chargesheet containing adequate evidence was filed. Additional Public Prosecutor Md. Rafi made the arguments during the trial, while Court police constable A. Lavanya and ASI G. Venkanna, the liaison officer, handled the witness examination skillfully. The court handed down the conviction after the offense was amply demonstrated during the investigation. The investigating officer, present Bhupalpally SHO Naresh Kumar, liaison officer ASI Venkanna, and CDO Lavanya were commended by police superintendent Sirisetti Sankeerth for their efforts in securing the conviction.
