At the Vizag Zoo, a pregnant sloth bear passes away from septic shock

Visakhapatnam: On Saturday morning, a 12-year-old female sloth bear at the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park passed away from septicemic shock brought on by a mummified fetus. The five-month-pregnant animal had been closely monitored by a veterinarian. The bear had stopped eating porridge in recent days, but it was still eating bread, dates, and fruits, according to zoo curator G. Mangamma. Four days before to her death, she also displayed vaginal discharge and symptoms of abortion. The bear was not able to be brought back to life despite constant observation and prompt medical attention. The zoo veterinarian’s post-mortem investigation verified septicemia brought on by issues related to the mummified fetus. G. Mangamma reiterated the zoo’s dedication to upholding strict veterinary standards and making sure that every animal resident is closely monitored for health issues.
