AP: Montha Results in a Loss of ₹5,265 Crore

Amaravati: According to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Cyclone Montha caused the state to lose an estimated ₹5,265 crore. According to him, the Roads and Buildings (R&B) department suffered damages of almost ₹2,079 crore, while the agriculture sector alone suffered losses of ₹829 crore. Although 120 livestock died, Naidu said that no human casualties occurred despite the cyclone’s ferocity. This time, he claimed, the irrigation department reported little damage. Officials provided the Chief Minister with a thorough assessment on the cyclone’s effects.
Later, when addressing the media, Naidu claimed that the government had correctly forecasted the cyclone’s course, reducing the amount of damage. Every home and family was geotagged, and we made decisions in real time in response to shifting weather patterns. Power restoration used to take ten hours, but it now takes three hours. Teams put forth a lot of effort,” he said. To prevent disruption, uprooted trees were promptly removed even as torrential rains pounded. The previous time it took was a week. While there is no way to stop natural calamities, being ready in advance can significantly lower losses, the Chief Minister continued.
