Bengaluru: Prajwal Revanna, a prisoner in the rape and sex videos case, appealed the trial court’s decision to sentence him to life in prison on Monday. The grandson of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, Prajwal Revanna is a former JD(S) MP.
Prajwal Revanna claimed in his plea that the victim was coerced into complaining about him by the police.
For the crimes of repeatedly raping a middle-aged housekeeper and filming the sexual assault, Prajwal Revenna faces a life sentence. Attorney Basavaraj Sappannavar has filed the appeal. The appeal has not yet been heard by the High Court.
Three additional cases of the same kind are pending against Prajwal Revanna.
In his petition, Prajwal Revanna questioned the decision to accept stains discovered on a bed as evidence years after the incidents and pointed out inconsistencies between the victim’s statement and the testimony.
Prajwal has requested that the trial court’s decision be overturned, arguing that the accusations against him are rife with errors in procedure and inconsistencies.
In a landmark decision, the Bengaluru Special Court for MPs/MLAs convicted former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna to life in prison till his death in connection with the rape case.
The case concerned the rape of a 47-year-old lady and an explicit video. On August 1, special court judge Santosh Gajanan Bhat announced the punishment and fined the offender Rs 10 lakh.
Prajwal Revanna was found guilty of raping people repeatedly and misusing his position of authority. The victim was also ordered to pay a punishment of Rs 7 lakh by the court.
The case concerns the sexual assault of a maid who was employed at the Revanna family’s guest house. The victim had told the court in her testament that she had been raped twice. Last May 31, 2024, Prajwal Revanna was arrested upon his return from Germany, where he had fled after the films of his sexual assaults went viral. Since then, he has been incarcerated.
The verdict was issued by Judge Santosh Gajanana Bhat. Prajwal Revanna was found guilty of repeated rape under IPC Section 376(2)(N) and sentenced to life in prison until death. He was also fined Rs 5 lakh. Under IPC Section 376(2)(k), the court sentenced the defendant to life in jail and a fine of Rs 5 lakh for raping a lady while in a position of authority or influence over her.
According to the court’s order, Prajwal Revanna must pay the victim’s Rs 7 lakh fine.

Prajwal Revanna was found guilty under IPC Sections 376 (2) (N) for repeatedly raping the same woman and for being a public servant who raped a woman in custody, 376 (2) (K) for having a position of authority over a woman and raping her, 354 (B) for using force against a woman with the intent to strip her, 354 (C) for voyeurism, which includes watching and taking pictures of women, and IT Act 66 (E) for violating privacy.
