Agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) conducted a raid on former US National Security Adviser (NSA) John Bolton’s residence in Maryland on Friday. According to the New York Post, FBI director Kash Patel ordered the high-profile national security inquiry.
Following the start of the operation, Patel posted a mysterious message on X that read, “NO ONE is above the law… @FBI agents on mission.”
The inquiry, which has to deal with secret data, was started during the first term of US President Donald Trump. But during the administration of former US President Joe Biden, it was put on hold.
Bolton, who was Trump’s NSA from 2018 to 2019, has been charged with exploiting confidential material in his book “The Room Where It Happened” from 2020. Trump claimed that the book violated a non-disclosure agreement and tried to stop it from being published.

Bolton’s criticism of Trump’s tariffs and Washington’s management of relations with India coincides with the raid. The former NSA called the high tariffs placed on New Delhi “a mistake in the bilateral relationship” and accused Donald Trump of needlessly upsetting India in an interview with NDTV earlier this month.
The former Trump aide’s comments followed President Trump’s imposition of some of the heaviest US tariffs on India, which totaled 50% and included a 25% fine for purchasing Russian oil. This strategy, according to Bolton, is “backward” and “damaging” to relations between the two countries.
“It may have further pushed India into the Beijing-Moscow axis when Trump imposed tariffs on India for purchasing Russian oil, but not on China, which also purchases Russian oil,” Bolton said in a post on X this week. The Trump administration’s lack of focus is an unintentional mistake.
Bolton was one of three Trump advisors whose security details were canceled, and his name was on the list of officers whose security clearances had been withdrawn.
