Forecast for Northern Telangana: Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall

Hyderabad: On Friday and Saturday, the Meteorological Department has issued a warning of severe to very heavy rainfall in the northern regions of Telangana. According to the IMD, a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal has gotten stronger and is heading toward south Odisha and north coastal Andhra. In addition, the state is experiencing widespread rainfall due to a trough and surface circulation. Several areas are under an orange alert, and 12 districts are expected to see extremely severe rain on Friday. Kalwakurthi in the Nagarkurnool district received 20 cm of the state’s worst rainfall between Wednesday and Thursday morning. Vikarabad, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Suryapet, Khammam, Wanaparthy, Nalgonda, Mahabubnagar, and Mulugu districts were also hit by intense downpours.

Colonies Immersed Normal life was paralyzed by the 6.62 cm of rains that fell on the Suryapet district. With Mellacheruvu recording 12.60 cm, Atmakur (S) 11.01 cm, Palakaveedu 10.60 cm, and Nadigudem 10.13 cm, streams and canals flooded. Several colonies were submerged as Kodad Peddacheruvu overflowed, causing traffic jams between Anantagiri and Kodad. Additionally, floodwaters entered colonies in Huzurnagar and Suryapet town, while the Paleru stream spilled at Urlugonda in Mote Mandal. ASHA employee Irpa Lakshmi, 60, of Lakshmipuram village in Venkatapuram mandal, was killed in Mulugu district after being washed away in a stream. The district of Vikarabad experienced constant rain, which flooded a number of irrigation projects and blocked roadways. There was significant damage to corn, vegetable crops, cotton, and sugarcane.
