Following specific information indications regarding the presence of terrorists in a wooded area near Akhal in the South Kashmir district, security forces initiated a cordon and search operation on August 1.

According to officials, security troops were conducting the operation in the Kulgam district of South Kashmir, namely in the Akhal Devsar area.

The encounter has resulted in the deaths of two terrorists.
Officials told news agency PTI that since the start of the operation, 11 security officers had been hurt.
The operation was put on hold for the night following an initial round of gunfire between the two sides last Friday, but officials reported that the cordon was reinforced and that more soldiers were quickly sent to the scene.
Two terrorists were killed the following day as the firing continued. The terrorists who were killed have not yet been identified or their group affiliation determined.

More information is awaited, and the operation is still in progress. Security personnel have kept a close perimeter around the region and are still fighting terrorists who are hiding in thickets.

According to reports, the operation is being closely watched by senior police and Army personnel around-the-clock, including Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, the Army’s Northern Commander, and Jammu and Kashmir Police Chief Nalin Prabhat.

Drones and helicopters have been deployed by security personnel to hunt for the terrorists in the woodland. Additionally, paracommandos were helping the security forces eliminate the ultras who were hiding.
