Visakhapatnam: A crackdown on SUHAM Pharmacies that are purportedly functioning in several districts without legitimate drug licenses has been launched by the Andhra Pradesh Drugs Control Administration. The action is in response to a complaint submitted through the Public Grievance Redressal System (PGRS), which disclosed that a number of establishments were operating under the names of the DHAN (Development of Humane Action) Foundation, Madurai-affiliated Shantinagar Kalanjiya SUHAM Trust, Shantinagar Kalanjiya Samakya Trust, Shantinagar Kalanjiya Paraspara Samakya Trust, and Shantinagar Kalanjiya Jeevitha Samakya Trust.
Drugs inspector V. Abhipriya investigated the unlicensed SUHAM Clinic and Diagnostic Center in Venkojipalem, MVP Colony, in response to the complaint. Under Form-16 of the medications and Cosmetics Act, 1940, officials confiscated 55 types of marketable medications valued at approximately ₹80,000, charging violations of Section 18(c). Form-17 was used to draw samples so the government analyst could examine them. The IV Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Visakhapatnam has been notified of the seizure. Officials promised that strict legal action will follow and stated that additional investigation is ongoing.
The enforcement campaign, according to assistant director S. Vijaya Kumar, is a part of a larger attempt to stop unlicensed pharmacy and medical businesses in the districts of Visakhapatnam, Anakapalle, and ASR. He noted that these practices pose serious hazards to public health. In order to stop similar infractions throughout the state, inspections are anticipated to step up in the upcoming weeks.
