Hyderabad Will Have Its Own Investigative Team

Hyderabad: The city police would have two distinct squads, one for security and another for investigation, according to Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar. Additionally, he found that more than 4.40 lakh CCTV cameras are either defective or of poor quality. Following his assumption of leadership, Sajjanar examined the city’s seven zones with the corresponding station house officers and recommended more than 200 remedial measures, including increasing the number of police officers.
Police personnel claim that the decision to divide the investigation and security wings was made in response to some officials’ claims that security duties were making it more difficult for the police to prevent and investigate crimes, which in turn led to an increase in criminal activity in VIP areas. According to a police officer who wished to remain anonymous, “in some areas, our officers are mostly busy with bandobast and traffic diversions, which increases their workload affecting criminal investigation.”
He said that a robust network of informants had been established by the police. “We are unable to take rapid action even after receiving a tip on a potential crime. In addition to completing formal documentation, our law enforcement and crime teams are expected to concentrate on their duties, which include cordon searches, surprise checks, and observation of unsocial members. A sub-inspector oversees the four to seven sectors that make up each police station on average. However, many of them ask drivers, homeguards, and constables for advice because they are hardly aware of the crime-prone areas within their authority. The majority of CCTV cameras are out of commission, he clarified.
