RIYADH: In the cities of Douma and Darraya in the Rif Dimashq governorate of Syria, the Saudi assistance organization KSrelief has started a debris removal and management effort in collaboration with the Syrian Civil Defense (White Helmets). The effort includes removing at least 85,500 cubic meters of rubble — 46,500 in Douma and 39,000 in Darraya, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Tuesday. Additionally, it offers a dedicated recycling facility that can turn roughly 30,000 cubic meters of debris into useful building materials.
The program aims to eliminate the dangers of unexploded munitions and establish a safe environment for rehabilitation, the SPA reported. It is part of Saudi Arabia’s ongoing efforts through KSrelief to alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people, assist sustainable rehabilitation, and restore life to cities ravaged by years of humanitarian disaster.
At a total cost of over $553 million, KSrelief has carried out 464 projects in the Syrian Arab Republic since its founding in 2015. These projects have addressed food security, early recovery, water, sanitation and hygiene, health, camp coordination, education, protection, emergency help, and nutrition.
