A woman has reportedly accused a Rapido bike taxi driver of sexually abusing her on Thursday night when they were riding in central Bengaluru. The incident, which is said to have happened on November 6, was made public after the woman posted about it on social media, which prompted Rapido and Bengaluru police to act quickly.
The woman claimed in her post that she had scheduled a Rapido trip from Church Street to her PG accommodations, and that during the ride, the driver reportedly attempted to improperly touch her. While I was riding, the captain attempted to seize my legs. She stated, “It happened so quickly that I couldn’t even process it, let alone record it.” She also mentioned that because she wasn’t familiar with the area, she was too afraid to get off the bike in the middle of a trip.
She claims that by the time she arrived at her destination, she was crying. Observing her upset, a bystander intervened and challenged the motorist, who allegedly apologized before making a menacing gesture and driving off. “I’m publishing this because no woman should ever have to experience anything like this—not in a taxi, not while riding a bike, and not anywhere else. I’ve experienced similar things before. She urged others to be vigilant and speak up against harassment, writing, “but today I just couldn’t stay silent because of how unsafe I felt.”
In response to her post, the Bengaluru City Police requested that she provide the location and contact data so that they may look into it further.
Rapido expressed concern about the driver’s behavior in a public statement as well. “Learning about the captain’s improper behavior on your most recent ride worries us. Our first priority continue to be your comfort and safety. Please give us some time so we can thoroughly analyze the issue, the business wrote.
